Plaint Of A Bird (Iqbal's Ek Parinde Ki Faryad)

                          Plaint Of A Bird
                     (Ek Parinde Ki Faryad)

The memory of  the past times haunts me,
Those springs of the garden, those chirpings of ours,

Those freedoms of our own nest is no more,
Coming in by own will, going out by own will,

My heart gets hurt the moment I recall,
The smile of buds on the tears of the dew,

That charming countenance, that lovely statuette,
Whose existence made thrive my nest,

Her wails don’t reach my prison,
O how I wish! My release was in my reach,

What an unfortunate am I, desiring anxiously for home!
My companions in the garden, I am lying in the prison!

The spring has arrived, the buds of flowers are blooming,
In this dark cell, I am cursing my own misfortune,

O God! Whom should I tell the sufferings of this prison,
I fear, I may die of sorrow here itself in the prison,

Since leaving the garden, my condition is this,
My heart is enduring the grief, grief is depressing my heart,

Taking it to be a song, listeners shouldn’t be amused,
This wail is the plaint of an afflicted heart,

Release me O the person who made me captivated!
I, a speechless captive, releasing me feel blessed!
